Online food delivery platform Zomato has increased its platform charges by 25 percent to Rs 5 per order, which means customers will now have to pay Rs 5 per order for food. Earlier Rs 4 per order was charged. The company had raised the platform fee from Rs 3 to Rs 4 per order in January this year.
In August last year, Zomato started the platform fee at Rs 2, which was increased to Rs 3 in October 2023. Let us know that customers who take Zomato’s Gold Loyalty program do not need to pay delivery fees. But now the new platform charges have been applied to all customers including Zomato Gold.
Record food orders were placed on Zomato on New Year’s Eve, prompting Zomato to increase its mandatory platform charges in January in key markets.
Last week, Zomato was ordered to pay Rs 11.81 crore as goods and services tax (GST) and fine. This includes a GST demand of Rs 5.9 crore for the period July 2017-March 2021 and Rs 5.9 crore as penalty.
