The US House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday to ban TikTok. The popular social media platform TikTok app is used by 17 million Americans every month. A law has been passed by the US House of Representatives to ban TikTok. The legislation is now pending in the Senate and the President has to make a final decision on it.
US President Joe Biden gave his assent to the legislation passed by the US House of Representatives and said he would sign the bill into law.
352 affirmative votes were received to pass this law, while 65 negative votes were cast.
The legislation to ban the popular social media platform TikTok app was introduced by Republican Mike Gallagher and Democrat Raja Krishnamurthy, who head the Select Committee on China as chairman and ranking member, respectively.

House Commerce Committee Republican Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rogers is pushing the TikTok bill. He said that today we are sending a clear message to our adversaries that we will not tolerate anyone using our freedom as a weapon against us.
China-based ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is accused of allegedly having ties to the Chinese government. If the law is enacted to ban TikTok, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, needs to sell the app within 180 days of the law taking effect.
