New Delhi, November 21 (UITV)- During the IPL auction, cricket expert Sanjay Manjrekar had expressed the possibility of a drop in the price of Mohammed Shami, to which Shami responded through social media, addressing him as “Baba” and taunting him. Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has given a befitting reply to the comment of former cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar.
Mohammed Shami shared a screenshot of a post in his Instagram story, which mentioned Manjrekar’s comment, in which he expressed apprehension about Shami’s injury and his performance. Shami wrote, “Jai Baba. Save some knowledge for your future too, it will be useful. If anyone wants to know the future, then meet sir.” This comment has come in response to Manjrekar’s statement, in which he said that due to Shami’s history of injuries, his price may come down in the upcoming IPL auction.
Speaking on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “Teams will definitely be interested in Shami, but given his injury history and the time taken to recover from recent injuries, franchises may be concerned about his fitness during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and loses him in the middle of the season, their options are limited. For this reason, his bid price may drop.”
Mohammed Shami made a strong comeback in 2024 through the Ranji Trophy after being away from cricket for a year due to injury. Playing for Bengal, he showed his class and experience with impressive figures of 4-54 in 19 overs.

The 34-year-old Shami proved himself fit through this performance after missing out on the 2023 World Cup final. However, due to injuries, Gujarat Titans released him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Last year, Shami finished as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament for Gujarat Titans with 28 wickets in 17 matches, which shows that when Shami is fit, he can prove to be a big match-winner for the team.
Shami’s “Baba” jibe shows that he completely disagrees with Manjrekar’s prediction. He not only mocked Manjrekar’s comment but also indicated that he does not care about the criticism.
This controversy between Mohammed Shami and Sanjay Manjrekar is one such example of off-field cricket where players and analysts make headlines with their opinions and reactions. What Manjrekar said about Shami’s injury and form may be his expert opinion, but Shami’s response proves that he is ready to face criticism and respond with his performance.
