At The Ten event held in San Juan Capistrano, California, Asian Games bronze medallist athlete Gulveer Singh achieved a remarkable feat by breaking a 16-year-old national record in the men’s 10,000m race. Clocking in at 27:41.81, the 25-year-old surpassed Surendra Singh’s previous record by an impressive margin of over 20 seconds, set back in 2008.
Despite this exceptional performance, Gulveer fell short of qualifying for the Paris Olympics, missing the required time of 27:00.00 by a margin of more than 41 seconds. Another Indian participant in the same heat, Kartik Kumar, secured a commendable ninth position with a timing of 28:01.90, also surpassing the previous national record.
However, Avinash Sable’s race didn’t go as planned, as he had to pull out of the event during the 15th lap at the 6,000m mark, resulting in a Did Not Finish (DNF) status.
In the women’s 10,000m category, Parul Chaudhary faced disappointment as she finished 20th with a timing of 32:02.08, missing the Paris qualification mark of 30:40.00.
